Description

Modular Breaching Insert System – MBI-S is a modular training system that converts standard residential, commercial, and shoot house doors into realistic breaching doors. By using real locksets and correct door mass, the system produces true-to-life latch shear, bolt pull-through, and door skin deformation while avoiding the overbuilt behavior of traditional steel breaching doors. Doors remain fully functional and lockable when not configured for breaching, making the system ideal for dual-use training environments and shoot houses.

Included components:

  • Door Panel Insert Receiver

  • Frame Anchor

  • Multi-Method Breaching Insert

  • Live Lockset Fabrication Jig (real knobs and deadbolts)

  • Simulated Lockset Fabrication Jig

  • Drill bit set for lockset fabrication

  • Material clamps (2x)

Modular Breaching Insert System – MBI-S

The Modular Breaching Insert System (MBI-S) is a modular breaching training platform designed to convert standard residential, commercial, and shoot house doors into realistic breaching doors. Unlike traditional breaching doors that rely on heavy steel construction and artificial reinforcement, MBI-S preserves correct door mass and hardware behavior to produce realistic failure modes at the point of defeat.

The system focuses on true-to-life latch shear, bolt pull-through, and door skin deformation using real locksets, allowing operators to train against targets that behave like the doors they encounter operationally. When not configured for breaching, doors remain fully functional and lockable, making MBI-S well suited for dual-use training environments and shoot houses.

Realistic Failure Where It Matters

MBI-S is intentionally designed to replicate the failure modes most commonly encountered during real-world breaching. By utilizing actual door hardware and maintaining realistic door weight, the system avoids the overbuilt behavior seen in many steel breaching doors that are often more difficult to defeat than real targets.

Modular Architecture and Core Components

At the center of the system is the Door Panel Insert Receiver, a C-channel assembly that indexes on the door panel and accepts either consumable lockset inserts or the Multi-Method Breaching Insert. This receiver provides consistent geometry and repeatable placement across training reps while allowing rapid reconfiguration.

The Frame Anchor reinforces the strike side of the door frame and provides a controlled load path for breaching forces when real locksets are used. It is designed to wear sacrificially over time and can be replaced by the end user as needed.

The Multi-Method Breaching Insert installs into the Door Panel Insert Receiver and uses standard 1×2 inch strapping to provide adjustable retention and resistance. This insert enables training with rams, inward pry tools, inward hydraulic tools, ballistic breaching, KBT tools, and explosive latch charges without reconfiguring the door.

Consumable Lockset Fabrication

MBI-S includes two dedicated fabrication jigs that allow instructors to control realism, cost, and training volume.

The Live Lockset Fabrication Jig enables the production of consumable lockset inserts using real door knobs and deadbolts installed into wood stock. This allows training against actual hardware with realistic defeat characteristics while keeping consumables low-cost and replaceable.

The Simulated Lockset Fabrication Jig supports the creation of low-cost lockset inserts using wooden dowels or metal rod to represent locking pins. This option is intended for high-volume training where full hardware realism is not required but consistent geometry and repeatability are still critical.

All required drill bits for lockset fabrication are included with the system.
